Nine more days!!!

Yesterday I completed my lab exam and I passed! I was so happy that I passed the first time because I really did not want to have to worry about studying and preparing for it again if I was not successful the first time. Now that my lab exam is out of the way it has really allowed me to get into my studying for my anatomy exam that is on Saturday... Which at this point I am feeling overwhelmed with because there is so much material. Which I feel like I will never get through... But I just keep looking at the calendar and thinking to myself only nine more days. Only nine more days and I am done first semester!!! Not only do I get to go home for Christmas to my family and friends but I am one step closer to being the nurse I have always dreamed of becoming. So, for now I am going to grin and bear studying and get through it because to me it is worth it, if it allows me to become a nurse!:)

What a relief!!!!

I feel so relieved that last week is over... So far it has been my most stressful week within the nursing program. And how I got through it was by talking to my mom a lot because she has been there for me through everything and I listened to music.

Official Jason Mraz- I’m Yours [Video]. (2008). Retrieved November 26, 2008, from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkHTsc9PU2A
This song allowed me to relax and take a little break from school work and then be more focused and productive once I started to do work again.
I know that now I have the pressure of exams and my lab spot testing to worry about now but for some reason I feel a little relieved and not overwhelmed. I think this is because the majority of my assignments for my classes are completed. This will actually allow me to just focus on studying unlike at midterm time when I had to study and complete projects at the same time. So, as of right now I am not stressing about exams but by the weekend that could be a different story!

Communication Barriers

Personally, I think that technology helps to overcome communication barriers within healthcare. By having the access to technology I feel that it allows healthcare professionals to communicate to one another in a more professional and confidential way. For example, using electronic health records within a healthcare centre is beneficial because healthcare professionals are not discussing patient’s health aloud in person. Also, electronic health records decreases the amount of errors that are made due to reading messy hand writing by healthcare professionals in charts. As a result this can affect the care a patient receives. Although, I believe technology is beneficial to overcoming communication barriers within healthcare. I still feel it has some negative aspects to it as well, affecting therapeutic communication between patients and healthcare professionals.

Semester One almost over.

So now having my midterm exam marks back I feel a little relieved to say the least. First of all because I feel I did well on them and secondly, that first semester is more than half way done. But, I feel as if I have not got a break. Its go, go, go all of the time, finish one thing and on to the next... The nursing program feels so demanding compared to some of my other friends programs.
From looking at November I can tell already that it is going to be a very busy month with assignments and starting to study for final exams. I can tell that the “break” I am looking forward to is not going to happen until Christmas break...
But, I am going to get through all the work and remember that it is worth it because becoming a nurse is my dream!

The Beginning Adventures of Blogging

Dear Fellow Readers,

My name is Olivia and I am in my first year of nursing! So far I love it! I am living in residence because home for me is about four hours away.

I believe that creating a blog is a great way for us nursing students to be able to get to know each other a little bit better and it allows us to see what other students may be struggling or are frustrated with. Blogs can also be a great way of helping other students out because you can post some of your tips maybe about your assignment that allowed you to manage your time to get it completed.
